Installation Guidelines
For your convenience, the LeMars Water Department's customer service department at 40 Central Avenue, SE is open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. until 5 p.m. Phones are answered during regular hours. After hours the LeMars Police Department answers phone calls, and cell phones are used to summon key personnel for emergency purposes.

FIELD SERVICES DUTIES

Meters
All houses have a water meter that must be protected by the homeowner. If neglect has been determined to cause damage to the meter, the homeowner will be responsible for the cost to repair or replace the meter.

Backflow
All irrigation systems and cross connections to the water system must have a backflow prevention device installed. This device must be tested annually and test reports must be on file at the LeMars Water Department office at 1298 18th St., SW.

Leaks
Many times leaks occur in the plumbing of the customer's home. These leaks can be very costly and waste large quantities of water in a short period of time. If you thing you have a leak or hear water running, please call the LeMars Water Department at (712) 546-5555 and we will check for leaks and try to determine the cause for you.

Water Service Lines
Homeowners are responsibility for keeping their service line in good condition form the main line to the water meter. Curb boxes and service shut-off valves are owned by the homeowner and must be kept in good working order.

Water Quality
The LeMars Water Department tries to keep discolored water from going into your home, if you are experiencing discolored water please call us at 712-546-5555. To have a service tech check this problem out.

Locates
The LeMars Water Department is a member of the Iowa One Call system. Before digging in your yard or in the parking along your street, please call Iowa One Call to make sure that there are no buried cables or pipes. The toll free number is 1-800-292-8989.

Meter Reading
Water meters are read in the first week of every month. Bills are sent out on or before the 15th of every month. We have two full-time/part-time meter readers that read the whole town. There are 3,910 meter to be read monthly.

SNOW REMOVAL

The Water Department is in charge of moving snow in the downtown parking lots, intersections and crosswalks. If you see a problem please call 712-546-5555 with your concerns.

The UBC Division is in charge of all billing and collection for the water, sewer and garbage. If you have questions on your bill or if you did not received a bill, Please call 712-548-4958. This is also where you call for applications and finals for your service.
